On Sunday, the Germanic-American Institute will celebrate Familienfest (Family Fest) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is your last chance of the summer to enjoy this free program open to the general public. Themed as a back-to-school celebration with a free bouncy-house, face painting, model trains, lawn games and picnic food at family friendly prices. Adult activities include icy-cold German beer and a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
Toddlers who participate in the GAI’s Zwerge summer dance session perform at 4 p.m., followed by the traditional Schulanfang ceremony. All the incoming Kindergarteners are invited to participate as they celebrate the beginning of their illustrious school careers. Sticking around afterwards has its reward with GAI treating all the kids to a freezie pop! The adults will have to make their own freezie beer pops at home.
