Due to poor weather, the MayDay Parade & Festival has been postponed until Sunday, May 13. All other times and details will remain the same. For more information please call (612) 721-2535 or see our website:www.hobt.org.
Sunday is the In the Heart of the Beast May Day Parade and Festival. Since 1975, Heart of the Beast has invited the entire community to participate by brainstorming, organizing, sculpting, sewing, building, painting, and joining in the parade and festival as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, and attendees.
The May Day Parade and Festival has become a joyous annual rite of summer. Upwards of 2,000 participants, along with amazing puppets and floats, parade down Bloomington Avenue telling a story and creating a moving theatrical performance. Thousands more line the streets to watch the parade and participate in day-long activities.
Following the parade, a pageant and tree of life ceremony in Powderhorn Park ushers in the renewal of a new summer season. The May Day Festival continues throughout the day in Powderhorn park, with music, canoe rides, food, and more. via Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association.
If you go for the day, you’ll probably be too exhausted to want more, but you could do some family May Day activities tomorrow or shorten your day out and spend quality time at home on Sunday. TLC Family offers some ideas for May Day family time. And if you are looking for a dinner idea, a lot of cultures celebrate May Day. I kind of like the idea of celebrating it Hawaiian style with this Hawaiian Sweet and Sour Pork (Pakkai).
